Battle of Quebec Comes to the GVA This Saturday

The Battle of Quebec returns to the Gatineau Valley Arena this Saturday, October 24, as the Paugan Falls Rapids host the Shawville Pontiacs for their first meeting of the season. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.

As the NPHL’s only two Quebec teams, the Rapids and Pontiacs bring some local pride to this matchup. With Shawville making the trip to Low, fans have another reason to fill the rink and get behind their hometown team.

Last Saturday’s home opener drew 543 fans for a thrilling game that ended in a 5–4 shootout loss. The Rapids will look to build on that energy as they return to home ice.

Saturday also marks Greg Gibson’s home debut, giving Rapids fans their first chance to see the team’s key offseason addition in action at the GVA. A Hobey Baker Award finalist with professional experience, Gibson has averaged more than three points per game in the NPHL. His arrival is an exciting addition to the Rapids’ offence, and fans won’t want to miss his first appearance on home ice.

Give the Gift of Sight and Hearing

The Rapids are partnering with the Low & District Lions Club to collect used eyeglasses and hearing aids at Saturday’s game.

Have a pair of glasses or hearing aids sitting unused in a drawer? Bring them along and drop them off at the door. Accepted donations include prescription glasses, reading glasses, children’s glasses, prescription and non-prescription sunglasses, clip-on sunglasses, and used hearing aids.

Eyeglass donations will support the Lions Recycle for Sight program, helping give used glasses a second life. All collected items will be passed along to the Low & District Lions Club.

Make a Night of It

Ronnie Rapid will be back to get the crowd going, and fans will have another opportunity to pick up retro merchandise while supplies last. Selina McCambley will perform the national anthem before puck drop.

Thank you to our game sponsors, Shawn Chamberlain Construction, Giant Tiger Wakefield, and Rustic Engagements, for supporting Saturday’s game and Rapids hockey.

Doors open at 5 p.m., warm-up begins at 6:30 p.m., and the puck drops at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door, with free admission for kids 12 and under.

Bring your donations, wear your Rapids colours, and join us at the GVA for the Battle of Quebec!
