Five Rapids Players Set to Compete at Inaugural NPHL Outlaw Tournament
The Paugan Falls Rapids will have a strong presence at the biggest event in NPHL history this weekend.
Ryan Peck, Etienne Champagne, Carter Peck, Luke Peck, and John Mahoney have all been selected as loan players for the Tilbury Bluebirds ahead of the inaugural NPHL Outlaw Tournament, taking place from April 24 to May 2 in Smiths Falls.
The Outlaw Tournament introduces a unique format that allows teams to bring in replacement players for those who are injured or unavailable, creating an opportunity for top talent from across the league to come together for a high-stakes, best-on-best competition. For the Rapids, it’s a proud moment to see five players recognized and selected to compete on this stage.
This year marks the first-ever Outlaw Tournament, and it’s shaping up to be one of the most competitive showcases the league has ever seen. Eight teams from across the NPHL will battle for a $25,000 prize and the distinction of becoming the first Outlaw champions.
The field is loaded with top teams from across every division:
- Smiths Falls Rideaus (18-1-1) – Capital Heritage Division Winner, Tournament Host
- Manotick Mariners (18-2) – Capital Pioneer Division Winner, Capital League Champions
- North Dundas Rockets (17-3) – Capital Frontier Division Winner
- Alvinston Killer Bees (17-3) – Metropolitan South Division Winner, Metropolitan League Champions
- Deseronto Bulldogs (14-4-2) – Capital Highlands Division Winner
- Orangeville Blitz (12-8) – Metropolitan Loyalist Division Winner
- Durham Hawks (11-8-1) – Wild Card
- Tilbury Bluebirds (9-11) – Wild Card
With division champions and top contenders from across the league all in one place, the level of competition is expected to be the highest the NPHL has ever seen.
Tilbury enters the tournament as a wildcard team, but with added firepower from across the league, they’ll be looking to make noise against some of the NPHL’s elite.
The tournament format features two round-robin style games per team between Friday and Sunday, with teams then ranked 1 through 8 before advancing to quarterfinals, semifinals, and the championship game.
Tilbury’s schedule is set as follows:
- Saturday, April 25 – 8:15 PM vs. Smiths Falls Rideaus
- Sunday, April 26 – 12:00 PM vs. Alvinston Killer Bees
The Sunday matchup adds another layer of intrigue, as Tilbury is set to face their biggest rivals, the Killer Bees, in what should be one of the marquee games of the weekend.
With five Rapids players in the lineup, there will be plenty of local representation on the ice. It’s a great opportunity for fans to head to Smiths Falls, support the Rapids contingent, and be part of the inaugural Outlaw Tournament atmosphere.
