The Paugan Falls Rapids, in partnership with Nextshift, are excited to host the Gear for Kids event this Saturday, July 6th, from 10 am to 2 pm on the Heritage Hall lawn, behind the Gatineau Valley Arena. This event promises to be a fantastic opportunity for local kids to get geared up for the next hockey season. Here's everything you need to know:

Location and Time

  • Date and Time: Saturday, July 6th, 10 am - 2 pm
  • Location: Heritage Hall Lawn (behind the Gatineau Valley Arena)

Event Activities and Features

  • Gear Assessment and Fitting: Upon arrival, each kid will be greeted by a Rapids player who will assess what gear they need. The players will help kids try on the gear and ensure they have everything needed to start playing hockey next season.
  • Photo Opportunity: After getting their gear, kids can take a photo with the Rapids player.
  • Shooting Station: Kids can visit the Rapids Shooting Station to take some shots on the hockey net with a Rapids player.
  • Sales: Season tickets, replica jerseys, and other Rapids merchandise will be available for sale at the event.

  • Organizers: The event is organized by the Paugan Falls Rapids and Nextshift, a non-profit organization dedicated to making hockey accessible for all.

Special Guests and Volunteers

  • Several Rapids players and dedicated volunteers from both the Rapids and Nextshift will be in attendance to assist with the event.

  • The primary goal of the Gear for Kids event is to ensure as many kids as possible in the area have the equipment and support they need to start playing hockey next season. Nextshift typically provides kids with 75%-100% of the necessary gear and offers financial assistance for qualifying families.

Instructions and Recommendations for Attendees

  • First Come, First Serve: Gear is given out on a first-come, first-serve basis.
  • Gear Exchange and Drop-Off: Attendees are welcome to bring old gear for exchange or donation.
  • Bring Your Stick: Kids who want to take shots at the shooting station should bring their stick.

Target Audience

  • The event is open to kids aged 3-18.
