Rapids Add Top Junior Talent With Signing of Defenseman Liam Murdoch
The Paugan Falls Rapids are excited to announce the signing of 21-year-old defenseman Liam Murdoch, a standout blue-liner from the Embrun Panthers of the EOJHL.
Murdoch joins the Rapids after four highly successful seasons of junior hockey, where he established himself as one of the premier defensemen in the league. Standing 6’1” and 185 lbs, Murdoch was the cornerstone of Embrun’s defensive core, playing heavy minutes in all situations and delivering consistently strong performances year after year.
Over 175 career EOJHL games, he recorded an impressive 44 goals and 90 assists, good for 134 points from the back end. Last season was his strongest to date, producing 18 goals and 30 assists for 48 points in 48 games, exactly a point-per-game pace—remarkable production for a defenseman.
Known for his excellent passing ability, calmness with the puck, and high-end hockey IQ, Murdoch brings a reliable, poised presence to the Rapids’ blue line.
“Liam was a standout defenseman in junior and a real team leader,” said General Manager Randy Peck. “His ability with the puck will really help our team this season. He has a strong hockey IQ, reads the play well, and is a guy who makes everything look easy.”
Murdoch made his Rapids debut last Saturday night against the defending champion North Dundas Rockets, where he turned in a solid performance against one of the league’s toughest opponents.
He also reunites with several familiar faces in Paugan Falls. Murdoch becomes the latest former Embrun Panther to join the Rapids, now skating alongside Aidan Foley, John Mahoney, Eric Skyba, and Robert Beaudoin, all former teammates from his junior days.
The Rapids are thrilled to welcome Liam to the Gatineau Valley and look forward to seeing him contribute to the team’s success this season.
