Rapids Battle Hard in Season Opener, Fall 8–5 to Rangers

The Paugan Falls Rapids opened their 2025–26 NPHL season on the road in Prescott on Saturday night, taking on a the South Grenville Rangers. Despite a spirited effort and a hat trick performance from Carter Peck, the Rapids came up short in an 8–5 final.

The Rapids came out strong, striking first at 15:22 of the opening frame when Carter Peck flew down the wing on a two-on-one and beat the Rangers’ netminder high short side with a powerful wrist shot. But the Rangers responded with three straight goals before the end of the period to carry a 3–1 lead into the first intermission.

Just 13 seconds into the second period, newcomer Keon Troccoli-Roik gave Rapids fans something to cheer about, scoring his first goal in a Rapids uniform. Taking a breakaway feed from Etienne Champagne, he calmly deked the Rangers goaltender for a highlight-reel finish to cut the deficit to 3–2. South Grenville answered quickly with two more tallies, one coming on the power play, to make it 5–2. Carter Peck wasn’t done, however, burying his second of the night off a perfect saucer pass from Garth McLaughlin on a two-on-one to keep the Rapids within striking distance at 5–3 heading into the third.

The Rangers extended their lead early in the final frame, but Carter Peck completed his first career NPHL hat trick to bring the Rapids back to 6–4. South Grenville added a power play goal and an empty netter late, before Garth McLaughlin capped the scoring with a power play marker off a feed from Sam McLaughlin with 44 seconds left, making the final 8–5.

Carter Peck’s three-goal performance earned him second star of the game and Rapids Player of the Game honours. His speed, finishing touch, and relentless play were a driving force throughout the night.

The Rapids now look ahead to their home opener on Saturday, October 11th at the Gatineau Valley Arena. Fans are encouraged to mark their calendars for what promises to be an electric night of Rapids hockey. Tickets are available now: Buy Tickets.
