Rapids Complete Stunning Late Comeback to Defeat Akwesasne in Overtime

The Paugan Falls Rapids delivered one of their most thrilling performances of the young season on Saturday night, erasing a late deficit to defeat the Akwesasne Wild 4–3 in overtime.

The Wild struck first at 13:28 of the opening frame on a quick shot from the slot, but the Rapids responded less than two minutes later. Carter Peck buried a rebound off an Eric Skyba shot, with Garth McLaughlin picking up the secondary assist, tying the game 1–1 after twenty minutes.

In the second period, Peck continued his strong start to the season, scoring short-handed on a breakaway to give the Rapids a 2–1 lead. Using his speed to create separation, he chipped the puck high blocker side for his second goal of the night. The Wild answered back shortly after on a deflected power-play marker from Greg Gibson, sending the teams to the intermission deadlocked at 2–2.

The third period featured tight, back-and-forth hockey until Akwesasne’s Sean David scored with 1:54 remaining to put the Wild up 3–2. Just 11 seconds later, the Rapids were handed a penalty, leaving them short-handed in the final minutes of play. But with 1:02 remaining, Cole Peck made a crucial defensive play to break up a Wild scoring chance and then raced the length of the ice. On a 2-on-1 rush, he fired a perfect shot high blocker side to tie the game at 3–3 while killing the penalty.

The Rapids carried that momentum into overtime. After successfully finishing off the penalty kill, Keon Troccoli-Roik played hero just 90 seconds into the extra frame, slipping a backhander low blocker side to complete the comeback and secure a huge 4–3 win.

Goaltender Aidan Foley was outstanding in net, stopping 41 of 44 shots for a .932 save percentage. He was named First Star of the Game and earned Rapids Player of the Game honours for his stellar effort.

Offensively, Carter Peck continued to shine with another two-goal outing, bringing his season totals to five goals and one assist through five games. Eric Skyba, in his first game of the 2025–26 season, made an immediate impact with two assists and several dangerous scoring chances throughout the night.

The win marks a key early-season statement for the Rapids, who continue to show resilience and depth across their lineup.
