Rapids Edge Rideaus 4-3 in Overtime Thriller

The Paugan Falls Rapids faced off against the Smiths Falls Rideaus on Saturday night in a highly competitive exhibition game at the Complex Sportif de la Peche. Both teams came ready to play, with Smiths Falls coming out fast and pressing the Rapids from the start. Despite the early pressure, the Rapids struck first. A fortunate bounce off a stanchion landed on Garth McLaughlin's stick in the slot, and he wasted no time burying it into the open net, giving the Rapids an early 1-0 lead.

The Rideaus responded quickly with two goals from Brad Hamilton and Justin Salter, heading into the second period with a 2-1 lead. The Rapids found their stride in the second period, using their speed to generate offensive chances. Jay Pothier tied the game at 2-2, assisted by Pineshish Whiteduck and Carter Peck.

Late in the third period, Garth McLaughlin notched his second of the game with a one-timer off a pass from Nicholas Carroll, putting the Rapids ahead 3-2. However, Smiths Falls answered back quickly, tying the game at 3-3 and sending it to overtime.

In the extra frame, the Rapids came out on top as Ryan Peck scored the game-winner on a 2-on-1 break, securing a 4-3 victory for the home side.

The game featured plenty of physical play, including a fight between Logan Beaupre of the Rapids and Curtis Pilon of the Rideaus after a scuffle in front of the net.

A crowd of 179 fans came out to support the Rapids in this preseason showdown. With this win, the Rapids are eager to kick off the regular season. The Rapids open their season on the road against the North Dundas Rockets on September 28th before returning home for their home opener on October 5th against the Arnprior Rivermen.
