Rapids Fall Short in Back-and-Forth Battle Against Pipers
The Paugan Falls Rapids faced the Glengarry Pipers on the road Saturday night, coming up just short in a tightly contested game that ended 6-4 in favor of the Pipers. Despite carrying the play for much of the game and outshooting Glengarry 36-21, a late surge by the Pipers proved to be the difference.
A Game of Momentum Swings
The Pipers struck first late in the first period when Kolton Oakes-Cook intercepted a D-to-D pass and rifled a shot top corner to give Glengarry the lead.
The Rapids bounced back in the second period with a short-handed goal by Robert Beaudoin, who battled hard on the penalty kill and finished a breakaway with a precise shot low glove side. Momentum swung further in the Rapids’ favour when Sam McLaughlin capitalized on a rebound midway through the game after a beautiful tic-tac-toe setup involving Cole Peck, Ryan Peck and Nic Carroll, putting the Rapids up 2-1.
Glengarry quickly responded with two goals to retake the lead before Devon Thompson tied the game 3-3 with a rebound goal just before the end of the second period.
In the third, the Pipers went up 4-3 at 12:42, but the Rapids showed resilience as Nolan Peck tied the game with just five minutes remaining on a well-placed point shot. However, the Pipers regained the lead with just over two minutes left, adding an empty netter to seal the 6-4 victory.
Player of the Game: Devon Thompson
Devon Thompson earned Player of the Game honours for the Rapids. His solid play in the faceoff circle, strong puck battles, and crucial second-period goal showcased his all-around impact.
Short-Staffed Rapids Fight Hard
The Rapids faced adversity late in the game, playing short-staffed due to Jeremy Maisonneuve’s ejection for a hit from behind and an injury to Alex Lafreniere. Despite these challenges, the team displayed determination and created numerous chances against the Pipers.
