Weekend Preview: Rapids Hit the Road Friday Before Returning Home Saturday
The Paugan Falls Rapids are gearing up for a pivotal weekend with back-to-back games on Friday, December 12 and Saturday, December 13 — one on the road in Shawville, and one back home at the Gatineau Valley Arena. With critical standings implications and two opponents the Rapids won’t see again this regular season, it’s shaping up to be one of the most important weekends of the year.
FRIDAY, DECEMBER 12 — RAPIDS @ SHAWVILLE PONTIACS
Shawville Arena — Warm-up 7:15 PM, Puck Drop 7:45 PM
The Rapids open the weekend with a road trip to face their Quebec rivals, the Shawville Pontiacs, in what will be the second and final meeting between the two teams this season. The Pontiacs spoiled the Rapids’ home opener back in October with a 7–4 win in Low, setting the tone for a matchup that has quickly become one of the league’s fiercest regional rivalries.
The Rapids expect a boost to the lineup with the return of Will Venne, who made his debut two weeks ago and will help strengthen Paugan Falls’ forward group heading into a tough building.
Competition is typically intense when these two teams meet, and a strong Rapids fan presence has been known to make the trip to Shawville in the past — something the players always appreciate. With the regular-season series on the line, the Rapids will be looking to return the favour and even things up on the road.
SATURDAY, DECEMBER 13 — RAPIDS vs. MADAWASKA VALLEY WOLVES
Gatineau Valley Arena — Warm-up 6:30 PM, Puck Drop 7:00 PM
The Rapids return to home ice Saturday night to host the Madawaska Valley Wolves, an opponent sitting just ahead of Paugan Falls in the Capital East Pioneer Division standings. The Wolves currently hold 3rd place with 10 points, while the Rapids sit in 4th with 6 points. This is the final meeting between the teams this season — a must-win game if the Rapids hope to close the gap and challenge for 3rd place.
Community Food Drive Night
Saturday’s game also features a meaningful off-ice initiative. In partnership with St. Michael’s High School and Queen Elizabeth Elementary School, the Rapids will be helping collect donations for their annual Food Drive. Fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items or a cash donation to support the cause.
One of the drive’s leaders, shared that this marks the 20th year of the community initiative, which supports around 30 local families during the holiday season.
