Rapids 2025 Banquet: A Triumphant Celebration of Community and Hockey

On May 3, 2025, the Paugan Falls Rapids transformed Heritage Hall in Low, Quebec, into a vibrant hub of celebration for the 2025 Year-End Banquet, welcoming over 300 players, fans, volunteers, and sponsors. The Gatineau Valley community came alive, reconnecting over laughter, shared stories, and an exquisite buffet featuring roast beef au jus, garlic mashed potatoes, and decadent desserts. A stunning drone-shot community photo, capturing the sea of smiling faces, became an instant keepsake, depicting the tight-knit community that supports the Rapids.

The evening kicked off with a heartfelt speech from NPHL President Joshua Rowlands, who presented the Rapids with the 2024-25 Community Excellence Award for their outstanding commitment to sportsmanship, local charities, and community engagement. Rowlands highlighted the team’s partnership with Nextshift Hockey, announcing a league-wide gear drop-off initiative at every NPHL arena starting next season. His vision for the league’s future, coupled with praise for the Rapids’ “remarkable community atmosphere,” set an inspiring tone. Head Coach & GM Randy Peck followed with a riveting speech—much shorter than last year’s but no less impactful. Scott Mahoney, representing the Gatineau Valley Arena, delivered a moving tribute to the arena’s volunteers, emphasizing their critical role in the Rapids’ success and the deep ties between the team and its home.

A deeply touching moment came during the inaugural David Chamberlin Sportsmanship Award presentation. Aidan Foley, a beacon of respect and teamwork, received the honour from Gail Chamberlin, her son Troy, and grandson Dylan, in a moment that brought tears and applause. In a heartwarming twist, Assistant Coach Steve Carroll presented Gail with a game-worn Aidan Foley jersey from the 2023 inaugural season, a cherished keepsake for the Chamberlin family. The awards ceremony continued with accolades for the season’s top performers, presenting awards to the Rookie of the Year, Most Improved Player, Best Forward, Best Defenseman, MVP and Coach's Award. The night’s energy soared as Jaxstraw took the stage, their electrifying performance igniting the dance floor. Ronnie Rapid, the beloved beaver mascot, stole the show, presenting awards with flair and cutting loose during the band’s set, much to the crowd’s delight. The seamless flow of the event, from the cocktail hour to the final encore, earned praise for its flawless execution and warm, inclusive vibe.

Looking forward, Nolan Peck shared exciting dates: the third annual golf tournament on June 14, 2025, and a Gear for Kids event with Nextshift Hockey on July 12, 2025. These initiatives promise to deepen the Rapids’ community impact, building on the legacy celebrated at the banquet. The evening was a resounding success, blending reflection on a stellar 2024-25 season with anticipation for what’s next. From heartfelt speeches to joyous dancing, the 2025 Banquet embodied the heart of the Rapids and the Gatineau Valley.
